Junior England international Tom Addison won this afternoon's Dunnerdale Fell Race (5 miles/1,800ft)from Broughton Mills.
The 19-year-old apprentice cabinet maker beat a quality field and was involved in a thrilling race to the line with Dark Peak's Lloyd Taggart.
Addison had taken the lead on the final climb but was caught on the wooded section near to the finish by Taggart.
"I thought: 'Oh, he's done me," said Addison, who is sponsored by Pete Bland Sports and works at Peter Hall & Son, Staveley. "But I hung in desperately and managed to find a bit more on the road to the finish".
"It's probably been my best race this season," said Addison, of Aldercroft, Kendal. "I think all my training this season has paid off and it's starting to show."
