A LAKELAND literary attraction has received an award in recognition of its contribution to the education of children.
The Wordsworth Trust, which owns Dove Cottage the former Grasmere home of William Wordsworth has received the prestigious Sandford Award which is given to heritage properties that organise high quality school visits which are relevant to the National Curriculum.
Singled out for commendation were the poetry workshops run from Dove Cottage, which encourage children to think creatively and devise their own stories using illustrations by trust education officer Nancy Martin.
The judges for the Sandford Award said: "A visit to Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Trust is an enlightening educational experience, which not only provides an insight into the life and work of one of Britain's most renowned literary figures but also encourages development of the learner's own imagination and creativity."
