KIRKBY Stephen Ladies Hockey team beat Ulverston 4-2.

A goalmouth scramble in the first half ended with Laura Tunstall forcing the ball over the line.

Ulverston fought back strongly and Tracey Maughan had to make some fantastic saves.

Emma Lightburn also made some vital tackles, but Ulverston still managed to equalise.

Mel Earl restored Kirkby's lead almost immediately and at half time the score was 2-1.

After the break, Ulverston forced the game deep into the Kirkby half, and once again pulled back to be on level terms.

Outstanding movement from home teams strikers Kim Balmer, Steph Law and Rachel Faustino allowed Kirkby to pick up once again while Claire Sproat and Laura Tunstall made some fine runs down the wings.

Mel Earl then made a run into the D' and forced the keeper to commit before knocking the ball to Rachel Faustino who pushed over the line.

Kirkby continued to press, with Mel Earl shooting over the bar, while a Litini Newcombe touch from a penalty corner went just wide.

Ros Cramp then picked out a perfect pass to Rachel Faustino and the youngster scored her second goal to secure a 4-2 victory.
