DRUGS claimed the lives of six people in Furness last year the lowest figure for almost ten years.
In his annual report, Furness coroner Ian Smith said heroin, methadone and alocohol continued to be the main problem.
Figures show the five men and one woman who died were aged between 20 and 40 years old, five from Barrow and one from Dalton-in-Furness.
Mr Smith said the figures did not mean that the drugs problem had been resolved but that it was "a welcome reduction" in the number of deaths they had caused, the lowest since 1993.
