FIRST there was Freddie the large, handsome cat, in Through the Letterbox.

Now Cartmel-based writer and illustrator Geraldine Braithwaite, has come up with another furry tale for young children based on a true story of fun-loving French bulldog puppy, Boofo.

Geraldine hails from South Lakeland, having grown-up in Arnside.

She attended Lancaster and Morecambe School of Art, moving to Brighton and Reading Arts School before going to Reading University.

She taught in London for a while and worked for the Unicorn Theatre for children, an adult company producing plays for youngsters.

Geraldine also spent 12 years in Rome, running the art department at St George's English School.

In 1989 she returned to South Lakeland and set up home in Cartmel, where her creativity took a new direction, combining her considerable artistic skills and a long-time ambition to write.

After going through the frustrating and time-consuming process with book publishers she took the initiative and decided to do it herself and publish her first literary attempt, Through the Letterbox, two years ago, which has sold more than 1,000 copies.

Boofo's Blunders is priced £4.99 and available at bookstores across the region including Ottakers, and Henry Roberts both in Kendal; The Tinner's Rabbit Bookshop in Ulverston; and Penrith's Bluebell Bookshop.
