JUST another night in front of the TV took on a new dimension at Kendal College with the performance of Dream Catcher.

A collaboration of work from students at the creative arts centre, the performance was an all-singing all-dancing riot of activity, show-casing talent ranging from fashion design and music composition to stage lighting and projection.

The concert was cleverly staged in the format of a series of television programmes with students stepping onto stage as if out of a television screen.

Highlights of the show included an outstanding individual performance by drama student soloist Steph Helsby, whose voice was just too big for the small stage of The Allan building, original compositions performed by Andrea Wilson and a solo by Krystal Clark.

From the in-your-face opening number Fashion Channel to the grand finale, the event buzzed with a youthful energy sustained by multimedia projections accompanied by a cutting-edge soundtrack, lights and live performances.

In a slot titled Dream Channel, fashion students' creations - deconstructed layers of white clothing - were paraded to maximum effect, coupled with pale Geisha-inspired make up.

Entertainment and production technology tutor Matt Burke said the technical students had played a crucial part in the performance.

"They did the lighting, sound, video production and projection - not bad for five 17-year-olds.

An event like this is excellent for the students.

It gives them hands on experience of a real life brief as they would be given as a professional."

Make-up tutor Lorraine Oates said: "The student were brilliant.

Bringing everything together like this under one roof is excellent."
