JOB fairs are to be held in Ulverston on a regular basis in a bid to find work for the 250 people registered unemployed in the town following the success of the first event in the town.

The job centre in Barrow has been holding job fairs in the town for more than a year as they allow those seeking work to meet with employers in the area to find out about vacancies.

Due to the past success of the scheme in Barrow the job centre decided to hold one in the Coronation Hall in Ulverston.

It has already been hailed a success as it attracted more than 60 unemployed people.

Suzanne Martin, who works on the vacancy section at Barrow Job Centre, said: "The response was quite good but we won't know if people have found work through the fair for a couple of weeks until we start seeing the vacant posts filled.

"We hold them as it allows people to meet employers face-to-face and find out if they would be suitable for the vacancies.

We are going to hold another one in Ulverston next year."

The next job fair, organised by Barrow Job Centre, will be in Forum 28 in Barrow on September 19 from 10am until 3pm.
