A letter date-stamped 1945 - believed to be from the armed forces - was found in Crescent Road, Windermere, on Sunday evening.
Police believe the letter may have been dropped accidentally.
Anybody with any
knowledge of the letter or its owner is asked to call Windermere police on 01539-722611 quoting reference 140707.
