A NEW free range egg production building has been approved for Esps Farm at Lowick Green.

Esps is a working farm next to the A590, with direct access off the trunk road, and has a poultry shed on land to the north of the farm buildings.

The Bell family, who run the farm, applied to erect a second poultry shed to the west of it on the other side of the public right of way.

Planning officer Mai-ri Lock, who dealt with the application under delegated powers, said an earlier application for a second poultry shed was withdrawn last year as the siting was too prominent.

Lowick Parish Coun-cil recommended ap-proval but some nearby residents expressed a worry that it was out of scale and visually intrusive.

They also complained that it would result in a further increase in house flies.

But environmental protection officers said that they had not received any comp-laints regarding fly problems and provided there was a pest man-agement system they had no objections.

Ms Lock considered the proposed building was necessary and designed for agricul-ture, was well related to existing farm buildings and was acceptable in design.

It would not cause harm to the landscape, character and appear-ance of the area or the right of way which was ‘sufficient to warrant refusal’.
