An Ulverston woman who has been waiting for a kidney transplant for six months has urged Westmorland Gazette readers to back the Gift Of Life campaign.
Clare Brown, 32, of Eden Mount, has to undergo gruelling eight-hour dialysis sessions every day to keep her alive.
“I was diagnosed with kidney disease aged 26, and because I was so young it was a real shock,” she said.
“Sadly my husband isn’t a match so I’ve been on the waiting list for a new kidney for six months.
“But there are so few donors out there I am worried my health will get worse unless someone can be found for me soon.”
Mrs Brown - who has had to give up work as a clerical assistant due to her failing health - has urged local people to sign up to the register as soon as they can.
“An organ is the best gift anyone can give anybody.
"It’s a lifeline and I would be so grateful to anybody who could help me get better.
"I don’t want to make people feel guilty but I would like people to know that being on the organ donor register does matter.
“One day my situation might happen to you and you will be thinking why can’t more people donate,” she said.
If you want to sign up to donate your organs, go to www.organdonation.nhs.uk or telephone 0300 1232323.
