“I am an organ donor. Well ... I thought I was, because I signed a card years ago and then never really gave much thought to it. Over time I must have misplaced it.

"I tried to find my donor card when I heard about this campaign.

"I couldn’t find it so I signed up to make sure that I have done my bit.

"If you have five minutes please join me because you could make the difference today too.

"Last year 3,513 organ transplants were carried out, thanks to the generosity of donors.

"Behind each transplant is a story of a family struggling with the pain of a death and another waiting desperately for an organ to prolong a friend or a loved one’s life.”

Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale.

“I am backing the campaign because with the number of people requiring a transplant of one sort or other is increasing, we should all ask ourselves about organ donation.

"There are so many things to think about in life, and certainly most of us are afraid to talk about death.

"We’re afraid to even think that we are going to die, let alone donating organs and tissue.

"But being an organ donor is a generous and worthwhile decision that can be a lifesaver.“ Christine Knipe, Chief Executive of the Westmorland County Agricultural Society.

“I will be backing the Gift of Life campaign.

"I had never thought about donating my organs before the campaign was launched but me and my girlfriend have talked about it and think it’s the most important thing you can do.

"If someone in my family was ill I would want to be able to help them in that way.

"If I was in a situation where I needed to help someone I would.

"There’s no greater thing you can do for someone, is there?”
