MOUNTAIN rescue volunteers found a vulnerable 79-year-old woman in bushes at the side of the Staveley bypass after she had been missing from her home in Ings for nearly 24 hours.

Police put out an appeal for information after Patricia Simpson was last seen at her Meadowcroft Cottages home at 7.15pm last Wednesday night (June 30). Three mountain rescue teams - Langdale and Ambleside, Kendal and Duddon & Furness - were mobilised to search for her along with search dogs. She was found by a member of the Duddon team. She was described as being “reasonably well,” if a little cold, and was taken to hospital for a check up.
