AN A Level student from Old Hutton is lacing up his trainers as he prepares to take part in the Virgin London Marathon next month.

Will Bellinger, 18, who attends Lancaster Royal Grammar School, is hoping to raise £1,750 for Leukaemia Care in his first marathon.

He said: “I’m running for Leukaemia Care because about 18 months ago one of my school friends lost his battle for life after fighting the illness for more than a year.

“It’s hard to accept that someone so young and full of life could die from this disease.

"It affected me and all my school friends deeply and we all want to do what we can to raise money to ensure some good comes out of a very bad situation.”

Will started his training early in November with 24 weeks to go, but lately has had a setback.

"He added: “I have a bit of tendonitis which has slowed my training down but I am up to 18 miles now.

“I am feeling OK about the race but also a bit anxious. I am sure with just one week to go though I will get excited and look forward to it.”

Earl Suligowski, who also attends the school, will also run for Leukaemia Care.
