TWO stars from reality television shows had an unlikely meeting during a late-night emergency at one of The Lake District's most famous hotels.

Simon Wainwright, the first male to appear on the popular TV series How to Look Good Naked, and his girlfriend Katie Robb checked into the Damson Dene, Crosthwaite, last week.

They were keen to meet the reality TV celebrities from the Channel Four fly-on-the-wall documentary The Hotel - but they had not banked on starring in their own drama.

It began when Simon, from Glasgow, awoke around 2am with ‘severe’ pains caused by major operations on his spine, stopping him from being able to move.

Manager Wayne Bartholomew and assistants Paul Murescan and Lavinia Misca rushed to the couple’s room when they heard cries for help.

They found Simon having spasms on the floor and Ms Robb in a state of panic.

They leapt into action to calm the situation ahead of paramedics arriving.

“By the time the paramedics got here they recognised me and then recognised Simon too,” said Welsh-born manager Mr Bartholomew, who since the series came out in April has had a long line of guests wanting to meet him.

“They thought we were filming a one-off show or something,” he said.

Once Simon was taken to hospital, staff at the three-star hotel let his partner stay free of charge.

“It's unbelievable how well they took care of Katie,” said Simon.

“They treated her like a queen. She had meals brought up to her, everyone made sure she was okay.

“When I got out of hospital I couldn't drive because of my back and they let us stay on and were fantastic.

"Wayne and I both had a laugh about being reality TV stars – he’s a really nice guy.”
