POLICE have named the female canoeist who died after capsizing in a Cumbrian river.
Catherine Stainsby, 41, from Swinton, Malton in North Yorkshire, died yesterday at Preston Royal Infirmary.
Mrs Stainsby was part of a group who were canoeing at Hobdale Beck, Cautley, Sedbergh on New Year's Day.
At 2:24 pm, paramedics, fire and police were called.
Mrs Stainsby was rescued and taken to Preston Royal Infirmary by air ambulance, where she died.
All of the other canoeists were safe and well.
The details have been passed onto the Preston Coroner.
