SURFERS of the web will be able to watch a council meeting for the first time tomorrow (Thursday).

South Lakeland District Council's full council meeting will be webcast live on their website from 6.30pm. The council will evaluate the pilot before making a decision to adopt webcasting for other meetings.

Councillor Sylvia Emmott, chairman of SLDC, said: “We have arranged this trial webcasting of meetings to help improve understanding and openness. "I think people will be interested to see and hear councillors debate items on the agenda and I hope it will raise awareness about how and why decisions are made.”

Members of the public who wish to view the webcast will need to access the SLDC website at www.southlakeland.gov.uk and follow the link from the home page.
