MAYOR of Appleby Coun Dot Anderton opened a new dementia day centre.
The Riverside Building, on Chapel Street, will be open between 9.30am and 4pm on Mondays and Thursdays to provide emotional and legal support for carers.
One-on-one consultations, day care at home and an emergency support line for carers will also be offered.
The service has been developed by a company called Gaudium.
Coun Anderton said: “After speaking to people at the open day I feel that this is a vital service we need to keep in Appleby for Appleby residents and surrounding villages.
“Dementia is on the increase and we need all the help we can get for all affected by this dreadful condition.”
