People in Penrith are being urged to get involved with the village SOS and secure up to £50,000 for the community.
The Village SOS initiative, run by the Big Lottery Fund and the BBC, has been launched to help breathe life into towns with less than 3,000 people and help to create jobs.
Voluntary and community groups, trusts and co-operatives can apply for the cash and Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and The Borders, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for any village or small town in the constituency to bid for a tranche of very welcoming funding. It’s an initiative that is extremely relevant to our constituency.
“Let’s put Cumbria on the map for its extraordinary volunteers and community enterprise.”
