Retained fire-fighters are being sought for fire stations across the South Lakes.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service wants to recruit around 40 on-call fire-fighters for 16 of its stations in Cumbria - including at Kirkby Lonsdale, Shap, Arnside, Milnthorpe and Stavely fire stations.

Potential recruits will need to attend a two-hour training session at a fire station each week and be able to get to the station within five minutes to attend emergency calls, either from home or work.

Watch Manager Paul Hamby from Cumbria Fire amd Rescue Service, says: “This may sound a daunting prospect but we have a number of open days programmed to assist with this process which will answer any questions you may have, remove any concerns and support you with your application where possible.”

Open days will be held at:

Kirkby Lonsdale Fire Station: Tuesday 8 May 2012 - 5pm - 8pm Saturday 9 June 2012 - 11am - 3pm o Arnside Fire Station: Tuesday 8 May 2012 - 7pm - 9pm Sunday 27 May 2012 - 11am - 3pm
