Ulverston's outgoing mayor has told residents that the future is bright for the town.

Coun Pat Jones, who steps down from her role on May 14, made a speech to a packed Ulverston Town Hall during the annual town meeting.

She said: “It has been a great honour for me as town mayor to represent Ulverston over the past year. I would also like to congratulate local firms for showing their trust in Ulverston.

“In particular, is the excellent news that GlaxoSmithKline has chosen the Ulverston GSK site for the creation of a £350 million biopharmaceutical plant.

“There was a strong lobby for this investment to come to Ulverston, with Furness Enterprise working alongside SLDC and Cumbria County Council, to highlight the benefits of building a new plant here.

“There has also been the recent £397 million take over by Siemens of the local firm Expro, which will provide safeguards and security.”
