A Cumbrian mountain bike enthusiast has written a new guide to mountain biking in the Yorkshire Dales.

Ian Boydon, 34, of Lancaster, who works for south Cumbria-based PR agency Osprey Communications, has spent the last 18 months writing a new mountain biking guide for the Yorkshire Dales.

The former Westmorland Gazette journalist, who has been riding in the area for almost 20 years, said he decided to write his ‘Mountain Biking in the Yorkshire Dales’ shortly after completing his previous guide to mountain biking in the Lake District.

“I had great fun writing my guide to the Lake District and it was generally well-received so I decided to write a guide to another fantastic riding area, the Yorkshire Dales,” he said.

“The Yorkshire Dales has a subtle charm that seems to grow on you with every visit. It is a great place to explore with a mountain bike and I hope that readers will get just as much enjoyment out of riding this spectacular area’s wonderful trails as I have done.”

The guide book, which is published by Milnthorpe-based Cicerone Press, contains 30 routes of varying length and is graded in difficulty and is therefore suitable to be used by riders of all abilities from near beginners to expert bikers.

Routes visit all corners of the Dales and visit places such as Sedbergh, Dent, Orton, Kirkby Stephen and Settle.

Mountain Biking in the Yorkshire Dales adds to Cicerone’s growing series of mountain biking guides, which also includes a guide to the South Downs and Ian’s first guide book to riding in the Lake District.

Sarah Spencer, marketing manager at Cicerone Press, said: “Mountain biking continues to grow as a sport in the UK and it is easy to see why it has wide appeal. This new guide to mountain biking in the Yorkshire Dales adds to the other titles in our growing range and will help show off the national park’s best biking trails with easy to follow directions, inspirational photographs and clear mapping.”
