A CADET Sergeant who gained his captain’s wings last year has become the youngest person in the Air Training Corps to achieve ‘C’ Category gliding instructor status.
Lewis Alderson is now able to teach fellow cadets at 1127 Squadron in Kendal how to fly the RAF’s Vigilant motorised glider.
Flt Lt Simon Walton said: “His achievement and commitment is exceptional. He is a terrific example of what can be achieved by joining the ATC.”
Meanwhile, Cadet Flight Sergeant Jenny Blake rounded off her five years in the ATC with the award of ‘Best Cadet’ at the squadron’s awards night.
The award was made in recognition of her ‘consistent enthusiasm and determination’ in contributing to the running of the squadron.
She is now studying zoology at Edinburgh University.
The ATC is open to all young men and women aged between 13 and 20.
It meets at its headquarters on Queen Katherine Street, Kendal, at 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
