A PIONEERING South Lakeland project could come to a premature end unless more volunteers are found.

Kendal’s “Men in Sheds” project currently supports 48 local older men in South Lakeland and is based on an idea from Australia.

The idea sees older men engaging “shoulder to shoulder” and working on something together.

Age UK South Lakeland has received funding from the Jules Thorn Trust and the Age UK national charity for the last two years.

It has helped the project get off the ground but the end of funding in June means that volunteers are needed to help the charity continue to support the shed sessions.

At the moment older men regularly meet together to work on their own projects, share skills with younger people, have a good craic and a mug of tea.

The project began in 2010 and is run from the charity’s furniture retail outlet in Station Yard.

People are needed to become shed co-ordinating volunteers to host regular sessions, help with transport or co-ordinate local workshop sessions for skills like chair weaving.
