COUNTING is under way in the 18 seats up for election on South Lakeland District Council.

A third of the authority’s 51 seats are being contested, although overall control of the council is expected to ramin under the ruling Liberal Democrats.

Nine of the seats are Conservative, the Liberal Democrats are defending seven, Labour has one and one seat is vacant.

The count is taking place at lakes leisure Kendal.

The first results are expected very soon.
