WORK on a new modern auction mart for South Lakeland is progressing on target.

Major work at the premises at Moss End, Crooklands, is complete. And bosses say they are confident the building will open in August.

The new market will benefit from indoor pens and loading stations.

Adam Day, managing director of North West Auctions, said he was sure the location, close to the M6, would attract new buyers.

“Everything will all be under one roof," said Mr Day. "And the access is superb. It will be less than a minute away from the A65 which links to Skipton and Yorkshire.”

The new facility will house two sales rings, 200 livestock pens, Kendal's 1818 auction rooms as well as a cafe.

“There is a lot of hard work going on in the background to make sure everything comes together," said Mr Day.

“I’m very excited by the fact we have already attracted new buyers and sellers. It's common knowledge how difficult it has been operating at the mart in the town.

“All those problems will be out of the window at the superb new location which will benefit all farmers who want to trade there.”
