COMMUNITIES will be joining in with an age-old beacon lighting tradition on Monday.
Lightings are planned in Arnside, Barbon, Bowness, Burton-in-Kendal, Burton-in-Lonsdale, Cartmel Racecourse, Casterton, Crosthwaite, Haverthwaite, Heversham, Ingleton, Kirkby Lonsdale, Levens, Orton, Shap, Warton and Windermere.
The ritual spans hundreds of years and has taken place to mark royal weddings, Jubilees and coronations, including Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Beacons will be lit from 10-10.30pm.
