SPORTY fun is on offer for all ages at a special 30th birthday open day at lakes leisure Kendal on Sunday (September 16).

All activities on the day (from 9am-5pm) will be charged at just £1 - with all proceeds going directly to the Cumbria Talented Athlete Fund to help promising athletes from the area achieve their sporting dreams.

The activities will include indoor sports like badminton, squash, table tennis, swimming and the gym.

There wil be a junior mini Olympics, including javelin, hurdles, long jump, shot putt, sprints and for those aged five to 15 from 10am.

And for one day only, the centre will also have a climbing wall, bucking bronco, bouncy castle and an outdoor skate park.

Richard Johnston, Partnership Operations Manager at Active Cumbriam, one of the organisations which backs the talented athlete fund, said: "I’m delighted that Lakes Leisure and the people of South Lakeland will be supporting the Cumbria Talented Athlete Fund. All of the funding raised will go towards supporting local athletes reach their potential, so the more people that attend this event, the better.”

Other highlights of the 30th anniversary year of lakes leisure kendal have included a special Kendal Triathlon, Mega Zumba, a swimming master class with Olympian Cassie Patten and a Royal visit from HRH The Duke of Gloucester, who originally opened the centre back in 1982.
