CUSTOMERS at Tebay Services have helped to raise thousands for Cumbria Community Foundation's Flood Recovery Appeal.

Westmorland Family has thanked everyone who gave generously through collection buckets at tills across its family of businesses, which also include Rheged, the visitor attraction near Penrith. The total raised was £36,202, which included £26,202 from customers.

"It’s important for us to be part of our community, and this winter many within those communities were affected by the disastrous floods," said the family-run company in a statement.

"It was touching to see how our community pulled together and, as well as fundraising, we were proud to be able to support our staff whose homes and daily lives were affected."

Cumbria Community Foundation’s Flood Recovery Appeal has raised almost £5 million since it was launched on December 5 last year. The fund has already handed over donations worth £1 million to 1,300 families in need, and the target now stands at £6 million.
