AN AWARD-winning chef turned hospitality and leisure expert has joined the Wordsworth Hotel & Spa as the prestigious Lake District hotel’s new General Manager.

Gordon Cartwright was appointed by new owner Guyzance Hall Ltd, which recently acquired the renowned four star property.

Starting his career as a chef with Roux Restaurants, Mr Cartwright knows the hospitality and leisure industry inside out, from hotel management and inspection to consultancy.

He has worked as a leading hotel and restaurant inspector for the AA, established his own consultancy, and most recently served as General Manager and Chef Director at the AA 4 Red Star Gilpin Hotel & Lake House in Windermere.

Mr Cartwright said: “I am delighted to be taking up the reins at such an historic and iconic hotel as the Wordsworth Hotel & Spa. We have great ambitions, for the hotel with performance, quality and growth at the top of the agenda.

“This is an exciting time for the hotel and for me personally, and I’m looking forward to putting my ideas into action to help The Wordsworth achieve its full potential, and become one of the Lake District’s leading destination hotels.”

Located in the beautiful village of Grasmere, The Wordsworth Hotel & Spa has recently undergone a major refurbishment across its 39 bedrooms, function suites, spa and leisure facilities.
