Brough man Trevor Dent was sentenced to six years today for killing a mother-of-five while driving drunk.

Dent, 49, from Swindale, hit his partner Rose-Marie Valente with his car while driving above the legal alcohol limit, on February 27 of last year.

Police were called to Black Bull Lane in Brough at 7:57 am on the day, after his Mrs Valente, also 49, from Bingley, West Yorks, had been found dead.

Detective Inspector Furzana Nazir said: “This was a tragic case in which Mr Dent had consumed that much alcohol that he no longer was aware of his actions.

"He got behind the wheel of his car and attempted to drive home. Mrs Valente, who had left the pub some time before was on her way to where she was staying, when tragedy struck and Dent knocked her over and she died.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this time, Mrs Valente was the mother of 5 children, who are still coming to terms with what happened.”
