Windermere SC, Unisun Athletic and Lunesdale United Reserves claim cup glory in Westmorland competitions

Goals from Christopher Ellwood, James Mandle and Craig Willan were enough to give Lunesdale a 3-2 success at Ambleside on Saturday before the two teams reconvened two days later.

On Monday night, Jonathan Lowis gave Lunesdale the lead before midfielder Tom Heap got the equaliser for the reserve side.

James Boyd added a second and Tom Brockbank scored a penalty before Heap completed his brace to make it 4-1.

Lunesdale scored a consolation but Ambleside had already won the game by that point, meaning they cemented their sixth place in the table, with Lunesdale ninth.

But Lunesdale’s reserve team were celebrating on Wednesday night when they won the Austinwren Cup.

They beat Esthwaite Vale 2-1 with goals from Carl Horner and Ben Jackson to lift the cup, with Ryan Taylor getting the goal for Vale.

Keswick beat Kendal Celtic 2-0 in the only other Division One game on Monday night to solidify their third-place finish in the table.

Windermere SC won 4-1 on penalties to lift the Mason and Freeman Cup against Wetheriggs United Reserves following a 2-2 draw in the match.

Windermere scored through Peter Booth and Sam Fletcher, while Wetheriggs’ goals came from David Barnes and Philip Jackson.

Unisun Athletic beat Greystoke in the Peter Daws Memorial Shield on Friday night 3-2 thanks to goals from Richard Hart, Robert McCartney and Tom Prince.

Just one game remains in the Bluefin Insurance Westmorland League campaign in a crunch tie which will decide who follows Kendal Celtic in Division Two next season.

Sedbergh Wanderers and Penrith Rangers meet in a clash that was postponed from Saturday due to heavy rain. The pressure is all on Rangers, who must win to avoid the drop, while a draw or Sedbergh win will ensure that Wanderers reatin their Division One place next season.

Meanwhile, the High Sheriff’s Cup final between Appleby and Keswick will now take place in Shap tonight.
