Swallow, the boat used in the classic 1974 film of Arthur Ransome's 'Swallows and Amazons', which was filmed at Coniston Water, will be at a boat show on the Thames this weekend.

The sailing dinghy, crewed by the Walker children in the book and film, will be launched on the lake at Beale Park Boat and Outdoor Show, and rigged with the original patched sail as seen in the much-loved film.

Swallow was rediscovered in 2010 when Turks Boatbuilders held an auction to clear its warehouse of maritime film props. An appeal among Arthur Ransome fans raised enough for the winning bid, and she is now owned by a small charitable trust, Sail Ransome, set up to look after her.

She is being brought to the show by the Nancy Blackett Trust, which was set up to own and run Arthur Ransome’s 27ft yacht of that name, which featured as the Goblin in the book We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea'.

The trust, which helped with the original fundraising, is currently ‘minding’ Swallow for the season, and will have an information and sales stall in the craft tent. Among the items on offer will be copies of the book 'The Making of Swallows and Amazons' by Sophie Neville, who played Titty in the film.

The show takes place at Beale Park, near Pangbourne on the Thames, from June 5 to 7.
