AN Eden farming family has been thrust into the limelight following their starring role in hit BBC2 show Lambing Live.

More than three million people tuned in to watch the Marston family of Easgill Head, Kirkby Stephen, as they delivered lambs alongside TV presenter Kate Humble.

For five nights last week farmer Donald and his wife Christine, their son Andrew, wife Rachel and young family filled TV screens via live broadcasts from their farm in the wind, rain and glorious sunshine.

“It’s been an absolutely wonderful experience that the kids will remember forever,” said Rachel.

“It took over seven months of our life with cameramen following us around and then the live shows last week needed 75 crew members,” she said.

“It all feels a bit quiet now, but what an incredible record for us to have of our farming life.”

Andrew said presenters Kate Humble and Adam Henson were really easy to get on with and just as friendly in real life as their on-screen personas “Kate’s been great, but she also likes to get things right which is why when the signal was lost on the first few nights it was frustrating," he said.

"But the weather was foul and it couldn’t be helped,” he added.

Fan mail for the family has been pouring in, with people telling them how much they enjoyed the show.

“We’ve had bundles of letters and we’d like to thank everyone locally for their support.

“After Lambing Live people say they understand more about farming.

"Now they know we’re not mad and there’s reasons why we have to be out on our quad bikes at 5am!” joked Andrew.

Daughters Catherine, ten and Abigail, seven, who attend Kirkby Stephen Primary School, have also enjoyed their new found fame.

The family took part in the show after being recommended by another farmer approached by the BBC.

Andrew said: “It was a non-stop week as lambing didn’t stop just because cameras were off, but we’ve all had a great time and will have a good laugh over the footage when we get a chance to watch it.”
