STAFF at a Furness-based electronics firm are facing another bout of redundancies after it announced it would be axing another 13 jobs - months after shedding 30 jobs.

Oxley Developments, which produces LED lighting and has a base in Ulverston and two in Barrow, made the announcement this week that it would be reducing it’s workforce by 13 by the end of June.

The job losses in March were blamed on the loss of a large contractand had said it hoped to be able to recruit again in the future when more work came in.

Managing director Peter Cotterill said Oxley will continue to employ 150 people in South Cumbria and said he was ‘optimistic’ about the future.

He said: “The impact of the UK Government’s Defence spending review and Europe wide budget difficulties are now starting to bite.

“We are obviously disappointed to have to make this decision and will try to help those affected in any way we can.

"It is particularly painful as we are completing the manufacture of the first set of submarine lights for Australia, based on our innovative LED technology, which under normal circumstances would be a time of celebration.”
