A DELEGATION from the International Office at the University of Cumbria paid a whistle-stop visit to five Chinese universities.

The delegation, including Vice Chancellor Peter Strike, went to universities in the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, Jinan and Beijing and discussed, among other things, the development of a degree in graphic design jointly delivered by the University of Cumbria and the Changshu Institute of Technology(CIT).

The universities have submitted an application to the Chinese Ministry of Education for a jointly delivered BA (Hons) degree in graphic design with the early stages delivered in China and later stages in Cumbria.

Ahead of this agreement, 25 Cumbria arts students are set to spend two weeks at CIT on a specialist programme this summer, where they will study Chinese art and culture.

“It is a really exciting time for the University of Cumbria to enhance our specialist portfolio," said Mr Strike. "Offering degrees with our Chinese associates demonstrates our unashamed ambition and confidence to compete in international markets and grow our reputation overseas."

A Chinese delegation from CIT will visit the University of Cumbria in June to discuss the Graphic Design Course and 20 of their academic staff will visit in October to learn about higher education in the UK.
