THE completion of an extension and refurbishment work at Cartmel CE Primary School was marked with a celebratory opening.

The Cumbria County Council-funded project, costing £200,000, included the building of a brand new classroom, the fitting of a new fire alarm and replacement boiler and re-pointing of the existing building.

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron performed the official opening ceremony last Friday.

Cumbria County Council’s Cabinet Member for Property, Cllr David Southward, said: “The county council has delivered a number of major improvements to schools and communities throughout Cumbria and the completion of the recent work at Cartmel Primary School is fantastic.

“The building looks wonderful and I’m sure the pupils and staff will feel the benefits immediately.”

Headteacher Rachel Battersby said: “The additional classroom and improvements to our school will make a huge difference for our pupils. Thanks to the investment from the county council we’ve got room to grow and this means we can continue to offer the highest quality educational provision for the local community long into the future.”

The work was completed by South Cumbria Construction.
