INTERNATIONAL visitors have descended on Kendal as part of a project to improve teaching through technology.

Kendal College is the only UK college involved in the LOGGEDON project, which brings together schools and colleges from Norway, Spain, Italy and the Republic of Ireland.

Sixteen tutors spent Monday and Tuesday working together on ideas for using technology to develop teaching techniques.

At the end of the project, a conference will be held where teachers from across Europe can learn from the group’s work.

Richard Evans, head of School for Applied Science at Kendal College who is leading the project for the UK, said: “Rather than telling our students to stop using technology all the time, we’re actually turning that on its head and asking how we can best use different types of technology in the classroom.

“It’s not about developing fancy new gadgets – instead it’s about taking what is already out there and using it within the classroom environment to engage students. So this could be anything from Skyping across Europe to collaborate on their learning, using games or phone apps to use their phones constructively.”

The visit was timed to coincide with the annual BETT Show at Excel in London, which all the tutors attended after coming to Kendal.

Gunta Dale, an English and social science teacher who travelled to Kendal from Haugaland Vgs School, in Norway, said: “It is my first time visiting the area and it will be nice to visit the Lake District before we head to BETT later this week.”
