Furness College played host to Cumbria’s best construction trainees last week when the top construction competition saw over 60 young construction trainees taking part in the first round of CITB’s prestigious SkillBuild competition. The competition puts to the test a range of construction trades from bricklaying, carpentry & joinery, plastering and painting & decorating. Colleges from all over the North West attended including the Cumbria colleges – Furness, Kendal, West Lakes and Carlisle, as well as those from further afield – Accrington & Rossendale, City of Liverpool College and Blackpool and Fylde. Success at the SkillBuild regional heats will give entrants the opportunity to compete at the 2017 WorldSkills competition in Abu Dhabi.
