DAIRY farmers could resume protests over milk prices after more devastating cuts from next month were announced.

In the latest move, First Milk said the price for its manufacturing pool will fall by 0.3p per litre and for its liquid pool by 1p per litre from November 1.

This follows cuts by Arla to its co-operative members by 1.67p from September 29 - down to 28.55p - and by 3p to its direct suppliers from November 1, a reduction which takes the price per litre to 27.8p.

Also on November 1, Muller Wiseman will slash1.9p off the milk price taking it down to 27.1p, while Dairy Crest will cut by 1.3p to 27.04p.

Farmers for Action leader David Handley warned protests like those which followed previous cuts could return.

These involved dairy farmers throughout Britain, including many in Cumbria, demonstrating outside milk processing plants.

However, the dairy companies have responded by saying the cuts are the result of market volatility caused by slowing demand, especially from China and Russia.
