THREE stretches of road in south Cumbria have been named as among the worst for Deer Vehicle Collisions (DVCs).

The Deer Initiative’s research of reported DVCs for England and Wales 2008–2013 has been released, and lists the M6 Burton-in-Kendal J35 to J36, M6 Killington Lake to Greenholme J37 to J38, and A591/A592 Newby Bridge, Windermere and Ambleside as three of the hotspots.

The DI together with Highway England is reminding motorists to be ‘deer aware’ as collisions between deer and vehicles increase in England and Wales at this time of year. April through to June is considered a high-risk time as many deer will be on the move looking for new territories.
