LANCASTER Beekeepers (LBK) are working to keep the area bee-friendly with community projects developing wildflower meadows, wildflower verges and pollinator patches.

LBK's Forage Officer, Erica Sarney, has been working with Parish Councils, the local Council, community groups, the Probation Service and others to plant various sites around the district.

Said Erica: "The Pollinator patch prepared and planted by the Community Payback team on Arkholme Close, Carnforth, has worked well and with another week's growth will look really stunning .

“It looks good from the canal towpath and from the approach via Arkholme Close.

“The site may be used for seed collection later in the season and used on a another site next year.

Two large areas of native meadow planting have also been done this year – one on the approach to Hornby by Strands Farm and on the Millennium Cycleway behind the Catholic Church at Caton and a small site in the Crook o' Lune car park.
