Ulverston Auction Mart – Tuesday 15th September 2015 Beef Breeding & Store Cattle With every pen in the auction full, an outstanding entry of 609 cattle were forward with a marvellous trade had by many reaching well above the thousand pound mark on many occasions. With buyers from as far as Aberdeen, York and Nottingham a total clearance was achieved. The top price on the day peaked at £1470 for an Aberdeen Angus Bullock exhibited by J&G Cooper purchased by WI Armitage, York. Top price Heifer reached £1315 for a Simmental Heifer also exhibited by J&G Cooper, Stank also being purchased by WI Armitage, York.

Entries are now being taken for the next Store Cattle Sale, Tuesday 6th October 2015.

Prime Cattle A good number forward with trade very similar to that of the previous week with Steers reaching a high of 215ppkg for Limousin exhibited by DC&MA Bowes, Priory Park being purchased by WI Armitage, York and Heifers reaching a high of 214ppkg for SJ Longmire, Knapperthaw being purchased by S Mason & Sons quality butchers of Barrow.

Prime Lambs & Cast Ewes A very good number of nearly 1800 forward met a much improved trade to an average of 154ppkg for the Prime lambs and £58 for the Cast Ewes. Top price lamb reached 178.26ppkg also being top pounds per head of £82 for a smart pen of Texels shown by D&A Purdham, Gubbergill being purchased by HJ Brocklebank. Also reaching £82 was a pen of quality Texels shown by A&C Park, St Bees being purchased by A Dawson, Sedbergh. Top price Ewes reached £92 for strong Texels exhibited by BR Thompson, Stainton Hall, being purchased by T Postlethwaite, Urswick Show & Sale of Gimmer Lambs and sale of Store Lambs A good number were placed before the judge Mr John Butcher with many thanks going to him he placed the awards as follows:- BEST PEN OF 10 MULE GIMMER LAMBS 1ST RA Walton, Stable Harvey 2ND RA Walton, Stable Harvey 3RD AB Inman, High Ground BEST PEN OF 10 CONTINENTAL CROSS GIMMER LAMBS 1ST P&BA Langhorn, Springfield 2ND TS&SM Park, Millom Castle 3RD D Nicholson, Birch Bank CHAMPION PEN - RA WALTON, STABLE HARVEY A good entry were in keen demand to an average of £86. Top price reached £100 for the 1st prize pen of Mule Gimmer lambs exhibited by RA Walton, Stable Harvey.
