Penrith: Wednesday, September 30 Prime Sheep On Wednesday Penrith & District Farmers’ Mart LLP held their weekly sale of 3,049 prime sheep, comprising of 1,606 prime lambs, 952 cast ewes & rams & 491 store lambs.

Topping the sale at 193.0p/kg was a pen of Texel lambs from Mr WH Brass, Low Row, purchased by Mr S Stodart, Wigton.

Top price per head on the day was £79, this was achieved twice, firstly for a single Texel Lamb from Mr WH Brass, Low Row, purchased by Cranston’s Quality Butchers’, Penrith. Following this was a single Beltex lamb from Messrs MPT & SD Wills, Fawcett Park, also purchased by Cranston’s Quality Butchers’.

The sale topped at £395 twice, firstly for a Limousin bull from Messrs J & AG Nicholson, Causeway Foot Farm, purchased by Mr P Bousfield, Glasslyn House. This was followed in to the ring by a British Blue bull calf from Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, bought by Mr D Holgate, Hemsworth.

Heifer calves topped at £325 for a British Blue, also from Messrs Fisher, Yanwath Woodhouse, bought by Mr D Holgate, Hemsworth.
