Leading farm prices for Kirkby Stephen Auction Mart

Kirkby Stephen Mart held their weekly sale of Prime Sheep on Tuesday night when an entry of 2,562 sheep were forward consisting of 1,943 prime lambs, 453 cast ewes and rams and 166 store lambs. Topping the sale at £104.80 was a Beltex cross lamb from Messrs Dodd, West View, Temple Sowerby which was bought by Steadman’s Butchers, Kirkby Stephen. Topping at 223.90p per kilo were a pen of Beltex cross lambs from Jane Brown, Greenfield Farm, Bishop Auckland which were purchased by Vivers Scotlamb. Messrs Dodd, West View sold a run of 37 Beltex and Dutch Texel cross lambs to average £86.07 (197.28p per kilo). 15 Active buyers crowded the ringside with all of them competing strongly to secure lambs for their orders. This resulted in all classes being far dearer, with the overall average being nearly 20p per kilo up, thus many lambs seeing an increase of £8-£10 on sales last week. Cast sheep were also a flying trade with this section topping at £118.50 for a Bluefaced Leicester Ram from Messrs Handley, Archers Hall, Sedbergh which was bought by Yorkshire Halal Meats.
