THERE is just over a week to go until The Westmorland Gazette's Question Time-style pre-election debate.

This will be the opportunity for people to hear the views of the three candidates representing mainstream political parties who have registered to stand for the Westmorland and Lonsdale constituency.

It is a real chance for those who have still to make up their minds which way to vote on June 8 to discover what the candidates would do for the area if elected.

Those attending will be able to find out. among other topics, the candidates' views on the United Kingdom leaving the European Union and what it might mean for this area; local health service provision; and the future of the local economy.

The debate will be held in the large cafe at Kendal College, at Milnthorpe Road, Kendal, on Thursday, May 25.

On the stage will be James Airey (Conservative), Eli Aldridge (Labour) and Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat).

The event is timed for 6.30pm with the debate due to begin at 7.15pm. Entry is free but is by ticket only, with seating for around 250 people.

There has been a strong demand for tickets but there are still some available so if you wish to attend and do not yet have a ticket please contact vicky.goodall@kendal.newsquest.co.uk The Gazette has invited people to submit questions to be asked on the night and the process of selecting those has now begun.

Editor Andrew Thomas, who will chair next Thursday's event, said: "There's been a great response. People are obviously very interested in a wide range of election issues.

"The hustings event promises to be an interesting and revealing evening."
