POLLING stations are open until 10pm tonight as voters head to select the next Member of Parliament for Westmorland and Lonsdale.
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron is hoping to secure the seat for a fourth time, but he can expect a strong challenge from Conservative candidate James Airey.
Also hoping to be representing the constituency are Labour’s 18-year-old candidate Eli Aldridge and independent Mr Fish Finger.

In the 2015 election, Mr Farron won with a clear majority of 8,949 from Conservative hopeful Ann Myatt. UKIP are not standing in this election, but they received the third highest amount of votes last time, ahead of Labour and Green. The Green Party also opted not select a candidate for today’s election, instead urging backers to vote for Mr Farron.
When the polls close at 10pm, the ballots will be counted at Kendal Leisure Centre, with a result expected at approximately 3am tomorrow morning.
