THE reopening of Hornby village swimming pool in north Lancashire has been delayed until May after contractors discovered “minor leakage”.

The Lune Valley Community Trust, which saved the mothballed Melling Road building, had planned to welcome swimmers back on Monday, April 9.

Volunteers described it as “a bit of a setback” but said they were “undeterred” and recognised the 15-metre pool must be "in tiptop condition" when the doors opened again.

Bob McGachie, chairman of the trust, said: "This is a great disappointment to us all and we sincerely apologise to all those schools, voluntary organisations and general public who have supported us throughout this campaign."

He added: "We have great plans for the future and have already recruited a pool manager and will shortly be advertising for qualified staff and community volunteers to take us forward."
