HOUSEHOLDERS have been urged to recycle more bathroom items such as shampoo and shower gel bottles.
A national study has found household recycling rates have levelled off, with Lancashire residents recycling 45.7 per cent of rubbish in 2016/17.
The county council has launched a campaign to increase its rate by asking residents to make bathroom recycling an everyday habit.
County Cllr Charlie Edwards, lead member for health, said: "We know people find it more difficult to recycle bathroom items, but we're asking them to make the extra effort.
"So much in the bathroom can be recycled – plastic shower gel and shampoo bottles, spray cleaner and bleach bottles, aerosol cans, and cardboard toothpaste boxes and toilet roll tubes."
He added: "If more people recycled these things it could really make a difference and take Lancashire' recycling rates to the next level."
