DOG owners have been given the chance to get their pets microchipped for free this month.

The Dog Trust has teamed up with Burnley Council to run a free microchipping event at Thursby Park in Queen Victoria Road, Burnley.

Matthew Balderson, a council dog warden, said: “The law changed in 2016 and your dog must be chipped.

“Chipping makes it a lot easier to identify a dog and return it to its owner if it goes missing.

“It’s a quick and relatively painless procedure.”

As well as microchipping, dogs will be given a free basic health check, including nail clipping, as well as information and advice on how to look after their dog.

The event will take place on Wednesday, August 22 between 11am and 3pm.
