A SETTLE College student is over the moon after winning a competition to design a match programme cover for her favourite football club - and attend a Premier League match as her prize.

Elizabeth Holt, 16, a junior member of Liverpool Football Club, entered the members' only competition to design the front cover of the match day programme.

The challenge was to design the programme for the Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, with the winner receiving two tickets for the match, and a framed copy of the cover, signed by manager, Jurgen Klopp.

Elizabeth, who likes to paint watercolour portraits, said she chose to feature the manager for a couple of reasons.

“I chose Jurgen Klopp as my subject because I love his passion for the club, and also my nan is a big fan of his. So I thought, even if I didn’t win, it would make a nice Christmas present for her. Now she’s not only very happy, she’s proud of me too."

The design took Elizabeth around three hours to complete, spread over a couple of days - and then she received a phone call from the club.

“I got in from school and there was a message on our answerphone from a lady at the club, asking if I could please call her back. At first, I thought it was maybe something to do with my membership renewal, then when we rang back and she told us, I was speechless. I was at home with my mum and younger sister, Tilly, and we rang my dad, who was just about to leave work – he was fairly speechless too," she said.

“I texted my close friends and the next day at school assembly, they were really happy for me, even those not really into football.”

With her two winning tickets, Elizabeth went along to the match with her dad, and afterwards, met up with Mr Klopp, who presented her with her signed print of the programme.

"I felt incredibly proud when I first saw the ‘real’ cover. I’m an 'official junior member – teen red now – and have been for around five years. I’ve entered a couple of draws before but nothing like this – your own design on the LFC match day programme cover for thousands and thousands of people to see. It’s been absolutely amazing."
